“I was not expecting the views and level of engagement that we received during this tour. The guide related ours was the first tour to the platform since the area was opened for the 2024 Summer. Happily for us not very many others onsite at the time of our visit, so no problem getting clear photos on an absolutely gorgeous day. Very good value.”

Hólmavík: Whale Watching Tour

7.Hólmavík: Whale Watching Tour

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 30 reviews · 2.5 hours · from $101

Set out from Hólmavík with an English-speaking guide to look for humpback whales, minke whales, dolphins, and seasonal puffins. Recent tours featured guides Judith and Teresa, plus detailed whale research and photo identification. The sheltered fjord usually means a calm ride and few cancellations.

“This tour was amazing! It was a small group and so well curated with a very knowledgable researcher as our guide. She is the lead researcher for the bay and provided a very high quality tour. We saw so many whales (12 humpbacks and 1 Minke) and she was able to show us the whales we saw in a research catalogue which was incredible. This tour was much less crowded than the Húsavík tours we saw and was so well done. We were provided warmth suits to block the wind and truly had an incredible time. I am so glad we whale watched in Hólmavík and not in Húsavík.”
