“Incredible day! A moderately challenging hike but the guide and other people in the group made it so fun and amazing! Our guide Dimitris was very easy to chat with and pointed out great spots for photos, regularly stopped for breaks etc. As a young solo traveller I felt very comfortable in the group and the hot spring was the best way to finish the day!! 10/10”

14.Kerlingarfjöll Day Hike from Reykjavik

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 5 reviews · 11 hours (approx.) · from $215

Travel from Reykjavik to remote Kerlingarfjöll with an English-speaking guide, stopping at Gullfoss and Highland Base before hiking in Hveradalir’s steaming geothermal valley. The 11-hour small-group trip includes pickup, WiFi, and transport, but you must bring lunch, water, and sturdy footwear for muddy, uneven trails.

“Artic Adventures and the guide were excellent. I gave the trip three stars because the description is deceiving. The hike is touted as going through thermal valleys and snow fields. They left out hiking up stairs without rails or ropes to cross over narrow ridges. The trail is pure muck. Not hiking shoes or hiking boots, galoshes are needed. We hiked only part way and then returned to the parking lot to follow a well marked path. The younger participants completed the loop. Overall we had a good day but wished we had been better advised on the hike.”
